Etafeni has 20 community caregivers, trained and stipended as part of the Expanded Public Works Programme. They are Etafeni's foot soldiers, visiting homes throughout the area - and identifying both children and adults in need of support. They often take Etafeni's social worker or Dietician back into a home if the residents aren't able to come to Etafeni, or they encourage people to join programmes at the Etafeni Centre. Two community caregivers work with the Dietician, two work in Etafeni's Afterschool Care programme, the others do home visits in the mornings and look after our special OVCs (orphans and vulnerable children) in the afternoons.
